Landscapes
I used to live near the North York moors and Dales. I made drawings and paintings on long walks sleeping out trying to learn about the history, the ecology experiencing the different seasons, the changing lights. These paintings explore these experiences both in Yorkshire and futher adventures around the globe

Forbidden Zone
Richard lived in Famagusta, Cyprus 50 years ago. No one has lived there since then. He has recently been able to revisit the deserted streets to draw and paint.
Studio work
These large scale works reflect on the experience of revisiting the Forbidden Zone.
Where I lived
This is the flat we rented. It has stood empty, quietly disintegrating, for 50 years.
The coast to coast
I spent two weeks carrying a small tent doing this famous walk carrying a set of paints. From the small watercolours and drawings these larger paintings evolved
North York moors
Some paintings are made on location, taking large canvasses and boards into the landscape and battling with the elements. I bought and arctic suit and boots second hand from charity shop in Tasmania in order to look the part. And keep warm
Sutton Bank
Some of the landscapes become pretty abstract some more realistic. I just enjoy experimenting. each new painting seems to inspire the next.
The Forbidden Zone
This large work created on the back wall of the studio was made from drawings made on location.
